ALZA Corporation is a pharmaceutical company founded in 1968 by Dr. Alejandro Zaffaroni. In May 2001, ALZA was acquired by Johnson & Johnson in a stock-for-stock transaction worth 10.5 billion dollars.

ALZA has developed and marketed many successful drug delivery platforms including:

  • ALZAMER® Depot
  • D-TRANS®
  • DUROS® implant
  • E-TRANS® electrotransport
  • OROS® (Osmotic Release Oral Systems)
  • Macroflux® transdermal system
  • STEALTH® liposomal


Many products developed and manufactured by ALZA corporation are marketed by other pharmaceutical companies. These include, most notably:

  • Catapres-TTS®
  • Concerta®

Locations

ALZA Corporate Headquarters (http://www.vancebrown.com/Alza.html) is in Mountain View, California at the Shoreline Business Park.

ALZA operates a large-scale clean manufacturing facility in Vacaville, California and another large-scale facility in Cashel, Ireland.
