Appleton's Cyclopedia of American Biography

   

Appleton's Cyclopedia of American Biography is a six-volume collection of biographies of famous Americans, published between 1887 and 1889.

Although a major reference for Americana, it is also notorious for including about 200 biographies of fictitious persons ("Nihilartikels").
