Colpitts oscillator

A Colpitts oscillator, named after its inventor Edwin H. Colpitts, is one of a number of designs for electronic oscillator circuits. One of the key features of this type of oscillator is that the frequency of the oscillator can be be changed through the application of a variable voltage.

This attribute makes the design extremely useful in a number of situations. However, recent circuits are more likely to be based on digital techniques rendering the design obsolete.
