Eli Lilly and Company
One of the world's largest corporations, Eli Lilly and Company is a global pharmaceutical company with headquarters in Indianapolis,Indiana, USA. A Fortune 500 corporation, the company had revenues of $12.5 billion in 2003. The company is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: LLY).
Eli Lilly and Company has made breakthroughs with major pharmaceutical products, such as cephalosporin, erythromycin, insulin, and, with Prozac (fluoxetine), arguably the world's most prominent selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor for the treatment of clinical depression. In addition to Prozac, some of Lilly's famous product trademarks include Evista, Humalog, Humatrope, and Zyprexa (olanzapine).
In 2003, Lilly introduced Cialis (tadalafil), a competitor to Pfizer's blockbuster Viagra for erectile dysfunction. Cialis was developed in a partnership with biotechnology company ICOS.
A 38-year old pharmaceutical chemist, Eli Lilly, founded the company in 1876.
