Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) is an Indian government-owned aircraft company based in Bangalore, India. It built the first military aircraft constructed in the subcontinent. It now is involved in the design, fabrication and assembly of aircrafts, jet engines, helicopters and their components and spares. It has facilities spread over a few cities in India.

The German engineer Kurt Tank designed the HF-24 Marut fighter-bomber, the first military aircraft constructed in India.
