Kelburn, New Zealand
Kelburn is the nearest hill suburb to the west of central Wellington in New Zealand. Though its population is not large, it has a number of distinguishing features:
- Victoria University of Wellington has its origins, and still its main campus, on the eastern slopes.
- The Cable Car is a tourist attraction and essential transport facility.
- The Carter Observatory is a popular destination for locals and visitors alike.
- The Botanical Gardens are on the northern flanks.
- The Kelburn Viaduct is a road bridge erected in the days when New Zealand had very few bridges of its type.
Due to its proximity to the University, many students live in flats in Kelburn.
