Lufthansa flight 540

Lufthansa flight 540, registered D-ABYB, was a flight that crashed on November 20, 1974. That was the first accident suffered by a Boeing 747. The accident ocurred at the Nairobi international airport, in Kenya.

The aircraft crashed during takeoff. The hydraulic systems were not configured properly for the departure, which resulted in the failure of the leading-edge slats to extend even though they had been selected down by the flight crew. 59 of 157 people aboard were killed.
