Nut (hardware)

A nut is a type of hardware fastener with a threaded hole. Nuts are usually hexagonal to permit tightening with a wrench but may also be square, knurled, winged or otherwise shaped. Along with a bolt, nuts are designed to capture and fasten objects together.

Nuts are graded with strength ratings compatible with their respective cap screws; for example, a PROPERTY CLASS 8.8 nut will be able to support the rated torque and clamp load of a PROPERTY CLASS 8.8 cap screw.
