Pitts Special

From 1944 to now, the Curtiss Pitts-designed Pitts Special has racked-up more aerobatic victories than any other type of aircraft.

The compact Pitts Special is now produced by Aviat in Afton, Wyoming. It is available as a S1 single seater with a 200HP flat four Lycoming engine and a 17' wingspan or as a S2 two seater variant featuring a 260HP flat six Lycoming and a 20' wingspan. The Pitts Special held sway over the aerobatic world championships until the rise of the monoplane. The first monoplane to topple the venerable Pitts from the top of unlimited aerobatic competition was the Soviet built and designed Yak 50.
