Robert Simson

Robert Simson (1687 - 1768) was a mathematician and professor of mathematics at the University of Glasgow from 1711 to 1761. His works include an edition of Euclid's Elements, five books on conic sections, and a reconstruction of lost works of Euclid and Apollonius.

The pedal line of a triangle is sometimes called the Simson Line after him.
