Rouge
- For the 1987 movie, see Rouge (movie)
Rouge, or Red rouge, is a form of ferric oxide used as polish and, historically, makeup.
Its chemical composition is Fe2O3 and is found in nature as hematite.
Rouge has traditionally been used for polishing metals and glass. It cuts slower that some modern polishes, such as cerium oxide, but is still used in optics fabrication and by jewelers for the superior finish it can produce. It is sold as a powder, paste or solid bar (with a wax or grease binder).
Similiar abrasives are sometimes called rouge;
- Green rouge, a chromium 3 oxide used for metal polishing.
- White rouge
- Yellow rouge
- Black rouge
