Toamasina province
Toamasina is a province of Madagascar with an area of 71,911 km². It has a population of 2,593.063 (July, 2001). Its capital is Toamasina.
Toamasina (It Is Salty), commonly referred to as Tamatave, is Madagascar’s largest and main port-city. It is the capital of the province Toamasina. It has wide palm tree lined avenues and selection of hotels and restaurants. The beaches in this area are beautiful, although sharks and pollution prevent swimming. Bazary Be is one of its colorful street markets. Here you can buy everything from exotic spices to handicrafts. The central market in the heart of the city appears to be the one and only sight deemed worth showing to the few tourists who visit this city.
