Tuxpan

Tuxpan (pronounced "TOOSHpahn") is a name shared by different cities in the country of Mexico. In the native Nahuatl language, it literally means "Place of the Rabbits".

The best known of these cities is the municipality of Tuxpan in Veracruz (state). Veracruz state is located in the eastern part of Mexico, on the Gulf of Mexico. Tuxpan is a port city, and is the closest port to Mexico City.

In the past, Tuxpan had oil fields developed around it. Tuxpan is now primarily a grain port, with emphasis on soybeans and corn. Tuxpan is also an important port for maritime imports into Mexico.

Referred to as "Puerto Tuxpan" by the Mexican people, Tuxpan is able to handle supertanker sized cargo ships.
