The 1852 UK general election was very close, Lord John Russell's Whigs again winning the popular vote, but the Conservatives, led by the Earl of Derby, again winning a majority (though much reduced) in the House of Commons. Their government soon collapsed, bringing about a Peelite-Whig coalition government, which ultimately founded the Liberal Party.
