University of Tehran
The University of Tehran (دانشگاه تهران in Persian) is the largest university in Iran and the largest in the Middle East. Over 30,000 students in more than 115 academic fields in 40 academic centers study at the university's six campuses.
It requires much effort to get accepted in the University for it only accepts the best in the country in University Entrance Exams. Getting accepted in the university not only requires hours of hard study but also a lot of luck.
Faculties
The university was established by the Iranian Parliament with the help of scientist Mahmoud Hessaby in 1934 and originally consisted of six faculties:
- Engineering
- Natural Science and Mathematics
- Literature, Philosophy and Pedagogical Sciences
- Medicine and related sciences
- Jurisprudence, Political and Economic Sciences
- Theology
Other faculties were founded later:
- Fine Arts (1941)
- Veterinary Medicine (1943)
- Agriculture(1945)
- Business Administration (1954)
- Education (1954)
- Natural Resources (1963)
- Economics (1970)
- Foreign Languages (1989)
- Environmental Studies (1992)
- Faculty of Physical Education (established in ???? and one of the largest in the world)
- Faculty of Foreign Languages (????)
In 1992, the faculties of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacology seceded to become the University of Medical Sciences of Tehran but now is located in same place as before , which is called The centeral Pardis .

The "U o T" also encompasses the higher education complexes of Qom and Abu Reihan.

People
Professor Lotfi Zadeh the father of Fuzzy Logic is a graduate of Tehran University.
In 2003, Shirin Ebadi a graduate and a professor of law at the university received the Nobel Prize for Peace.
Conjoined twins Ladan and Laleh Bijani studied in the Faculty of Law, amazingly, since it is very difficult to get accepted in the university in the first place.
Renowned movie director Abbas Kiarostami studied in the Faculty of Art.
