Washington and Jefferson College
Washington and Jefferson College is a private, coeducational, liberal arts college located in Washington, Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1781 and is the oldest institution of higher learning west of the Alleghany mountains. The college has an enrollment of approximately 1100 students. It was granted a Phi Beta Kappa chapter in 1913. Distinguished alumni include James G. Blaine, a candidate for President of the United States, Alberto Vilar, a prominent investment banker, and John Reed, interim president of the New York Stock Exchange. It competes in intercollegiate athletics at the NCAA Division III level.
